I finally became fed up with my ten year old, cheap, and useless kitchen knives and started researching for some quality new ones that would not break the bank. As we all know, cutlery can be very, very expensive, but I definitely didn’t have a boundless budget. My research brought me to Bed Bath & Beyond to wield the orange-handled, Rachael Ray endorsed blades forged by the Australian cutlery design and manufacturing company, Füri Knives. Everything I read online made them seem like they were the ones for me, but there was just one thing that I could not appreciate through digital means; how they feel in my hand. There has been a trend of forging lightweight, hollow-handle cutlery, which is obviously desired by many but is an instant turn off for me. When I hold a blade I want to know that there is something powerful in my hands, I want to feel it respond when I make the slightest movement.  For me, weight equals stability and control. Not only was I delighted by the weight of this blade, I was shocked by the grip! The Rachael Ray “Gusto-Grip” provides you with a slip-free amazingly versatile handle with which I find myself seamlessly alternating between the three different grip techniques depending on what my cutting needs are.

Needless to say, I purchased a pair these blades, a 5” and 7” East-West knifes, right then and there along with a very nice bamboo holding case, which is kept closed by a surprisingly strong magnet for $120 (they’re only $69.99 now). The blades perform beautifully and have not let me down to date. When I need to sharpen them (getting there… I’ve had them nine months), I am considering the sharpening tool by Füri as well, and will hopefully get back to you with a review on that soon.

If you prefer clean, sharp, precise, durable and perfectly weighted cutlery, Füri Knives has what you are looking for. Cooking is a craft and these, in my opinion, are wonderful tools of the trade. Keep experimenting and enjoy the tastes of life!
